Octavia Nasr to Al-Jazeera English !!!
Jul 8th

From CNN.com
Soon after the surprise firing of CNN’s senior ME editor on her comments after the death of Shia’a cleric Fadlalla ideas are starting to formulate on the Net about Nasr’s future in the business , and I must say that I’m in the camp that believes that a move to AlJazeera English may seem to be the logical one but the true question remains will she be offered that chance? (something I’m sure AlJazeera execs are seriously thinking about) .
And if so would she accept such an opportunity to better represent her views in a network that seems to give all a voice , we will have to wait and see .
But in any case we wish Octavia the best in what ever she decides to do .
Doha EXPO 20??
Jul 7th
Qatar joins a large group of 190 nations in (Expo 2010) being held in Shanghai between the 1st of May and the end of October this year, the Qatari participation is the largest since taking part in these events, As Qatar has chosen a large replica of a traditional Qatari fort much similar to that of Barzan Tower and Al-Zubara fort in the north of Qatar as the nation’s exposition pavilion in this year’s Expo.
News of Qatar’s presence in Expo 2010 did not get any noticeable traction in the local media and some may see this as being normal The considering the fact that when you are in this part of the world there are more important things in the news that take precedence like the Middle Eastern conflict , the economy and certainly these days the World Cup ,and yes Qatar’s acceleration in the global investment market almost always gets the front page headlines so it’s safe to say that it’s not all doom and gloom in the news here in Qatar , and for Qataris it’s always a welcomed respite from the daily fatigue of the middle eastern political news À la Aljazeera.
However some of the local population in Doha did show some interest in an idea that I had wrote about in my Arabic column published in Al-Raya Daily newspaper here in Qatar in which I stated that Doha or a neighboring city in the Gulf should bid for the privilege of hosting a future world exposition or EXPO, with “Jawaher Mohamed” a reader of Al-Raya Daily newspaper commenting on Facebook saying that:
We hope that one day this would happen in our country and that officials would take note of such a view
Some Qataris view a bid to host an Expo as a better bet than actually landing the World Cup – which an effort to do so is ongoing – and that an Expo would have a greater positive impact on infrastructure and the local economy than a sporting event even as large as the world cup.
For now however the momentum is and will be for the foreseeable future behind the Qatari bid to host the World Cup as some view adding the extra burden of preparing for an Expo bid would divide the effort, and when or if Qatar wins the World Cup bid this idea of an Expo would definitely be a distant one, but as Qatar and the world watches the largest Expo ever to take place currently being held in Shanghai enjoy success it leads Qataris to ask the question, what if?

Qatar from Space !
Jun 27th
As I was exploring Google maps trying to make sure my Aramex address in the UK was correct (since Apple didn’t recognise it) I came across a bizarre sight that appeared not far from Aramex House .
Yes a Qatar Airways in mid flight ! , now this may not be so astonishing as this kind of stuff happens quite a lot in Google’s (Map System) never the less its always fun to see the QATAR name so clear from outer-space .
